Ready, Set.... GO!

Today we had some running races. We were practicing for the Athletics Day on the 5th of December. When we are running we need to remember to try and run in a straight line. We are all very speedy runners and are looking forward to the Athletics Day in week 8.

Bubbles

Today Room 7 made some bubbles. We wrote a story together about it:

We made some bubbles. Some of the bubbles were humongous. The bubbles danced in the air. They popped on the tree. Oh no! We had to wash our hands because they got very slippery from the bubble mixture.

Cross Country

What a great day we had at cross country! We were lucky to get such a lovely sunny day with no wind.
Well done Room 7 for trying your hardest and persevering! I was very proud of all of you for having such a positive 'give it a go' attitude.

Here are some photos of the day.

Pet Day

We couldn't wait to get to school on Tuesday because it was Pet Day. We saw lots of white fluffy lambs and round fat chickens. Some of rRoom 7 decorated gumboots. They looked spectaular. We all liked watching the grand parade. Pet Day was a day full of fun.

Jaxson's Weta

Jaxson bought a weta to school today. He found the weta in his mum's bedroom. The weta is hairy and spikey. It has 6 legs, 2 antennae, a head and a hard shell. We looked at it under the microscope.

Inventions Sharing

This afternoon the whole school got together to share all their inventions.
Room 7 did a great job sharing thier robots to the other children, explaining what thier robot can do and how they made them.
We enjoyed looking at the inventions that the other children had made. We thought everyone did an amazing job with thier inventions. Well done.

YES - Anyone can be an inventor!

Save the Burning Building

We have designed our own game: Save the Burning Building

Our first step was to PLAN:

Then we GATHERED the things for our game and we MADE it:

Then we tried our game out:

We then wrote instructions on how to play our game:

1: Each player rolls the dice and moves the fire truck along the board.
2: When you land on a ladder you have to go up it.
3: When you land on a pole you have to go down.
4: The first person to reach the burning building wins the game.

Our next step was to put on our green thinking hat and MODIFY our game.

These are our ideas:

Make the board colourful.
Put a longer pole in.
Put a longer ladder in.
Make some more poles so the game is harder.

We then put our red thinking hat on to EVALUATE our game.

Here is what we thought:

We liked our game because you go down the poles.
We liked our game because we liked rolling the dice and counting.
We liked our game because we climbed the ladders and could win the game.
We thought the game was fun and easy.
We liked rolling the dice and counting.

Least to Most Important Invention

We had to sort 4 inventions from the most to least important on a continuum. We had to justify our opinions.

Games Day

On Thursday we played lots of games in the hall. We worked in small groups to play the games. After each game we used the yellow, black and green Thinking Hats to talk about what we liked and didn't like about the games and how we could adapt the game to make it better. We had a fun time playing the games.

WOW! Wheels Day. It is going to be such  a fun day. Thank you Miss Simpson and the Student Council for organising another event for us.

Olympic Medals

This afternoon we made our own Olympic medals. We had to choose a sport that we wanted to win a medal in. Then we drew the sport on the medal and coloured it in -gold, silver or bronze. Some of the sports that we chose were equestrian, football, running, swimming and hammer throwing.
We had a medal ceremony and Mrs Noon gave out the medals to us. We all sang the National Anthem.

Ice Cream

This week we have been reading 'The Giants Ice Cream'. We made our own ice cream. We used cream, eggs, sugar and food colouring. We used the beater to mix the ice cream up. We put jelly beans in the ice cream too. We had to put the ice cream in the freezer to make it frozen. Room 7 had to be very patient waiting for the ice cream to set. It took a long time!
Thank you Miss Humphrey and Laura for helping us make ice cream!

Going for Gold

This week some Room 6 children helped us to make these photos. We had to choose an athlete that we wanted to be. The Room 6 children took our photo and then they put our faces on the athletes bodies. Wow! We also wrote some stories about winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games. We will put these on soon.
Thank you Room 6 for helping us with these photos!

On Thursday the Palmerston North Boys High band visited our school. They had lots of different instruments. We enjoyed seeing all the instruments and hearing the different sounds they all made. We learnt about the bagpipes. We had never seen this instrument before. We thought they were very loud and looked hard to play.We enjoyed listening to the music.Thank you very much for sharing your music with us.
